ECU?

On an 03 1.2 16V behind the engine about level with the cylinder head, there is a metal box (which is loose and rattling about) measuring about 2" on each side.

I have seen other references on here to it actually being the ECU. Yes, it appears to have quite a few wires going into and out of it but if it is actually the ECU then it is the wierdest one I have ever seen. I'm also slightly worried about the cover being loose as I cannot see how it's fixed.

2" means 2 inches. Thats the engine management comp iirc. I would tape up the wires leading into it or cable tie it so that it doesnt move too much as it will wear throught the wires and one day your car might not start!

mmm, that's what I thought, however, why the hell is the casing, made out of rather thick steel, loose without some locatable fixing so it can be tightened?

Does it look like this?

Yep thats the ECU its ot a silly metal bracket if its rattling just try remove it and hold it in place better it rattles about and can damage the looms.

The rest of the Clios use that place. Nope this one behind the 1.2 engine block as such its a wierd design its due to the tyre of ECU it is and cooling requirments.
