Editing NEF Files in Photoshop

Why does it bring up that other screen and not let you edit it like a proper picture?

Is there anyway i can do it as a proper image without loosing quality or anything?

photoshop cs4 btw.

That's just how it is, once done using ACR it opens up like a normal picture and you can work on it further.

The only post production you need to do in ACR is levels and WB........leaving sharpening to Photoshop.

just click 'open image' at the bottom of that window and it brings it up in normal photoshop. i like this window it's good to adjust things like lighting.

lol im such a noob.

Just spent 20 mins playing with an image, and your right Claire its really good! Shame you cant do it to all photos that aren't NEF (can you?)

Yeh the badge is blue and not silver - i know

The shadow on the left side of the car makes it feel a bit unbalanced, as does the shrub/tree in the background, but I quite like the edit - doesn't look noisy which is a good thing! Green looks nuclear lol, kinda works though.
