Eibach Pro-kit or Sportlines?

  Monaco RS Clio 172
is it difficult to fit this kit yourself?

the only tool I suppose I don't have is a spring compressor.

is there a guide?.. can't find one.

I got a quote of 150 to fit these at the garage I always use. is this a good price?

sorry to bombard with questions! :)

I am a numpty when it comes to mechanics, and I managed to fit the Prolines myself, took about 2 hours. I had spring compressors, as it made it easier, but they're not really needed on the sports as the springs aren't really compressed anyway, but I'd advise using some just incase. You can get them quite cheap from halfords.

The rears will take you about 1 minute a side!

No, I don't think Sportlines actually drop the car a whole lot from what I can tell. Hence me not being able to decide between them and coilovers. I think they lower about 30mm, but not 100% on that. I've had the Pro's before on my 172, and they lowered it about 10mm on the front and 15mm on the rear.

sportlines lower them a little you can tell obviously not as much as coilys. im happy with them

really? that easy?

any chance of a guide pref with pics on here?

I found a suspension based guide for changing front struts, but not specifically springs, and none for the rears.

I just don't fancy cocking it up. I have a load of allen keys spanners every socket you could think of, just no spring compressors. I would buy some if I were to do it myself, because if I do not do it myself, I will end up paying 150 for the garage to do it. if I can save at least 100, I am happy.

well, I'll pick up some compressors later, and once they arrive, saturday, I will have her up in the air and have a go.

I am not a very good mechanic but I am ok with most of the straightforward stuff like changing wishbones and etc, as part of owning a ford, you NEED to know how to do these things so I am not scared of having a go. just never had a car so expensive to play with. lol

great thanks guys. if the weather is good and my new springs arrive before, I shall attempt this saturday. will nip into halfords and grab some spring compressors.

Try not to mark the spring compressors, then take them back after and say you already had some or something lol.

Was wondering this myself. If I fit a set of either Pro or Sportlines to a non-RS, 1.6 Si will I have ANY problems with kerbs or speedbumps? For example, would I still be able to take speedbumps that I can currently go over at 30mph at the same speed?

maybe due to the ride difference, you could slow down to 15, I accept this may well be the case, it's the actual scrape and possibility of blowing exhaust / cracking or even losing of my front bumper that worries me.

they don't seem to lower it a huge deal according to what pictures and people have said so, just subtly.

I will let you know however as I have to go up a kirb front on to get to work properly, so we will see soon. lol

Lol ok no worries. Think mine would drop a bit more with it being a non-RS model. Although, it is still a sport model so I suppose it could have different springs to your standard non-RS. Would be a pain for me slowing down to 15, got speedbumps everywhere here.

shouldn't go any lower than a 172 with them on tho.. I think so anyway. maybe someone could help who knows more. bit of a newbie here lol

Yeah it's alright, I'm just picking things up as I go along too. Won't be putting new springs on for a while anyway, but it's always good to know.

The RS models have a slightly lower suspension setup than the non-RS models to begin with, however Eibach produce the same springs for both models so it effects the non-RS models more. The only difference is if you own a 1.2, which Eibach do make different springs for, although only the fronts I believe as the 1.2's are lighter at the front.

I'm thinking it won't be a problem tbh, as my car has a splitter which is a good 30-50mm and I can't see that it has been scratched.

If anyone could confirm about the max speed possible, with Eibach's fitted, for taking your average speedbump it would be much appreciated. :)
