Eibach Pro's going on! One front done...

  Saab 93 Aero Wagon
Well im halfway thru the front changeover.

I didn't realise the new spring was gonna be bigger than the standard one!
No need for spring compressors taking the old ones off but god knows you need them putting the new ones on!

Doesn't help the ones at work have gone walkies....i only have one odd one.
Oh and the bottom strut to hub bolts are a BIATCH to get out!

So one side is on...in an hour and a half!

Thank god for that.

I had a horrible feeling that maybe the springs were for a 1.2 or something....i tend to worry like that!

Hub was well supported although it was awkward, and wanted to keep flopping forwards or backwards!

Very good Slick...but no such luck!

All done! First front took an hour and a half the other one took all of half an hour!
As for the rears....well "springs should pop out" means get a ball joint separator and lever them out....well i had to anyway...they don't just pop out!

And to get the new ones in i ended up undoing both rear shocks and kept a jack under both rear wheels to gently lower the axle down as the new springs are a pig to get in otherwise.
Other than that all seems ok. As expected the "drop" is non existent but im not fussed....fingers crossed for the drive home now.
A nice gentle day or so to let them settle i think!

Drove it home, but didn't go mad. Was gonna go banzai down a favorite road of mine but i think im gonna let it settle for the night.
Have to say it did feel alot tighter and less prone to roll.....front end certainly feels more 'pointy'.
As for any drop, well its fairly minute if there is any....but again it may need to settle!

Ollie...

I am pleased my speculation with regards to your absence was incorrect!

Do you think you need specialist tools for this job or will just a socket set and spanners suffice?

Thanks

Sam

4 springs can be done in an hour no probs..
Not without prior experience.
Doing it out on the drive is something I'm never going to do again!

With an airgun and a ramp I can do a change in under 20 minutes.

they are good, you will find the front especially will settle a tad, its a very good set up imo. Get some pics up in a week or so :)

Well i had an airgun...it was never gonna happen without it as the strut top nuts weren't budging, and the lower strut nuts were pretty darn tight even after being soaked in WD for a few hours.

I also had a ramp which saves messing with jacks and axle stands, but its not really a simple case of sockets and spanners in my opinion.
Spring compressers make it alot easier when putting the front shocks back together.

rears really are a piece of piss, fronts i'm not so sure, if you've never tried something like that before it might turn out to be a pain in the ass

what at your house or on the ramps? how much they charge per hour? maybe this convo should be continued via msn...! lol

you can do it on your drive no problems.

i put my springs back to standard on sunday... took me 2 hours or so with just a trolley jack and 2 axle stands. Its the 4th time ive done it myself, getting quicker every time.
