ekotek get bollocking from asa

Copied from a newsgroup

Got a nice call from Kingston-on-Thames Trading Standards this morning
to say that the ASA didnt believe the Ecotek tripe either :) After
18 months they couldnt produce anything other than an 11 year old
draft report on some clapped out Cavaliers and press reviews which
they said proved their own claims (!)

"The complainant challenged the claims:

1. "Transform your performance"
UPHELD - "...the device would allow an air bleed into the intake
manifold to occur only when the throttle was closed as the car was
slowed by the engine (overrun conditions) and at idle ...It understood
that, in most fuel injected cars, if the car was overrunning, the fuel
supply to the engine would be cut off ...the device was unlikely to
have a great effect on engine performance"

2. "Save money on petrol"
UPHELD - " ...insufficient to prove that there was a statistically
significant improvement in fuel economy"

3. "Reduce emissions".
UPHELD - "...the results were not statistically significant"

"The Authority advised the advertisers to consult the CAP Copy Advice
team for help with preparing future advertisements."

Whoops!
