Electric dies upon starting!

Tried to start my car and when you put the key in and turn the usual display lights come on but upon turning the key to start all the lights go out and the electric goes off as if the battery suddenly dies. So it won't start at all, engine won't even begin to turn...

Is this a battery problem or being dead or could the alternator be gone?

Okay... Now theres no power there at all, either battery is completely dead or wiring?

check the battery first..the alternator is a little bit difficult to have been given up and not charging the battery...
