Electrical problem with a radio - help needed!!

  None
I brought an FM tuner of Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=150134623931&rd=1&rd=1

But its got the foreign 2 plug socket and not the uk 3 plug socket type. i though no problem i'll use the travel adapter :D have for foreign plugs - so I plug it in and..... nothing!!

At the moment I have tried 4 different plug sockets, fuse seems to be ok but still not having any joy. I was wondering tho - is my travel adapter dropping the voltage from 220-230v to 110v thats used in some other countries?? if so how can I sort this out as even tho the FM tuner has a 2 socket plug - it still needs 220-230v. Can anyone help??

if your adapter looks like a normal plug with the lead cut off and two holes in the back... then no it isnt converting the voltage at all. A step down converter will be more bulky..

Read the input voltage on the back of the tuner to confirm it requires 220-230v at 50-60hz if so then you can simply cut the old plug off and wire in a standard UK plug (make sure you get the wires wired up correctly before plugging it in ;) )

Also, fuse the plug correctly. At a guess it probably wont pull anymore than 1 amp with maybe up to a 2 amp draw at power on. So you could probably put a 2 amp fuse in but I would probably go with 3amp fuse. You can work it out though.

Iv'e checked it and it does say on the back "220-230v at 50/60hz" I havent got a clue how to wire a plug tho :/

pretty self explanatory really!

or you could just do what they have done in the photo, open the gate with something else plug it in.
