Turbos.
We're at Spa next week for a long race so with the engine doing about as much it can, the team had a think about a new aero package. The Elise had a stock Motorsport body, whereas the BMWs etc. in our series are considerably wider than their production counterparts, so we thought we deserved a few bits!
So, the car now has a long diffuser, fully covered underfloor and new splitter. The barge boards on the side increase floor area, which means more air and ultimately more downforce (in addition to the other bits).
The previous underfloor had NACA ducts to cool the gearbox etc., so in order to be safe, the gearbox now has its own cooler.
Its the first time i had been in the car with the sequential's paddles now working. The geartronics system has an 'A' for Auto mode which means upshifts are done without me needing to do anything!
The interior is starting to fill with buttons mind you! The gearlever is left in just in case something goes wrong with the paddles...
I went out for the first two sessons. A sensor going meant i pulled off on the first corner, so not the greatest start! The ECU was tricked to ignore it and after 10 mins i was back on circuit, eventually setting a best of 51.2 seconds by lunch.
It was then time to hand over to our tame racing driver who will be co-piloting at Spa. The eagle eyed will notice the fog light holes have been removed, so we played around with the front to see how the rad would react to less/more air.
James was then on his way and managed to eventually get to a 50.4 second lap after tweaking the setup. The aero package had increased downforce but brought in slight understeer...
We viewed datalogging to see any areas room for improvement, i told James to stop being a pussy round Druids!
Everything went well, just hoping it all sticks together for the Spa race now!
Didn't get much time to look around the paddock. Some Time Attack Evos were they but they both were fairly unreliable, one going home early!
An interesting car on a personal level was the Reyland Cossie...
It sounded like a hurricane so not sure what power its packing, but the litle Elise was more than match!
And thats it... will do another thread after Spa, its my first foreign event and i can't wait!
