Emission Warning Light

  Clio 200 Black and White
This came on this morning, is that bad? Immediate trip to the dealer or can it wait a few K for the next service?

Not sure if it's related, but when I get above 5000 rpm I get a bit of white smoke coming out of the exhaust - like you get when the engine isn't warmed up on a cold morning.

Thing is, this is happening after half an hour of driving so the engine should be warm already. Considering it's minus 5 here right now, I'm thinking maybe it's just a bit of harmless water vapour - anyone else experience this?

Hi Matey the toxic Emission light came on in mine a few weeks back after about a week it went out and stayed out..
Ive read it can be due to a bad batch of fuel?
Cheers

Mine has come on 4-5 times during the 4 years I have owned it. It always goes out again eventually, touch wood. Sods law actually, it has just come on again after my MOT failure, so will no doubt be on when it's retested. No doubt that'll spur the tester to check the emissions again.

yeah I had it in my last clio as well - turned out to be a dodgy sensor that cost 10 quid to replace, just hope it's the same story this time.

I've posted the white smoke issue separately - do I need to be concerned about it?

mine came on and there was no obvious problems so I just carried on driving (maybe not the best course of action, i didnt even have smoke)

then it failed the MOT on emissions, so the nice tester man put some cleaning mixture through the fuel system which he tells me cleaned the injectors and cat. Emissions light off and MOT pass!

  2008 Clio 1.4 Dynamique
Happened on my first Mk3 1.4. Turned out to be the coil pack but happened again the very next day which ended up as the lambda sensor. Not great for a car that has only done 10k kilometres at that stage

  172 Exclusive... For Sale
I've had this light on for month's, it's either the cat or sensor. Decided I'm heading for a decat, waiting for the group buy to begin...

Fixed it!

Seems if you turn the ignition on and off in quick succession you get a sort of fault re-set. I did it to try to get the damn airbag warning light off. That one stayed on, but the emission warning light went off.

So, next time your light comes on, try the ignition re-set, if it goes out it might have just been a one off, if it stays on you need to get it checked out
