EML on- is there a trick to reading fault codes without a proper reader?

Car  172DD Cup
on a couple of cars i've had you can do the 'paperclip test' where you join two terminals in the fault code plug and the eml light flashes a series of codes to indicate the fault.

is there any such trick with the clio?

there's not enough detail with that method. with vauxhalls the eml light will flash a sequence that gives you a four digit code, allowing you to identify the problem sensor and even the type of failure, example:

0120 - TPS circuit malfunction
0121 - TPS circuit range/performance problem
0122 - TPS circuit low input
0123 - TPS circuit high input
0124 - TPS circuit intermittent

so on and so forth...
