emoji Not Backwardly Compatible?

Ok so I used to run a 3GS on OS 4.0 and had no issues sending emoji icons to my friend on a 3GS on 3.1.3.

I have upgraded to a 4 on 5.0.1 and when I try and include an emoji icon, it won't even send the text and it doesn't get delivered!

Anyone else had this issue or know a fix?

The emoji comes standard with iOS 5.

Have you enabled it in the Keyboard settings?

Yeah I'm using it, everytime I put an icon in - she doesn't even receive the text.

Looks like Apple has changed the encoding from scouring Google! It's a bit annoying though as there's no fix out yet it seems!

mmm i have it working in my 4 on 5.0 and they work on the sisters phone...

she has a iphone 4 on 4.3.5(the latest 4.x.x update...)
