Bought a 330 to replace the Trophy, couldnt bring myself to sell the Trophy. Sold the 330.

Went faster, Bought an M3 to replace the Trophy, couldnt bring myself to sell the Trophy. Sold the M3.

Went newer/better handling, bought a 197 Cup to replace the Trophy, cant bring myself to sell the Trophy...

I might just give up trying to replace it & console myself to the fact ill always need two cars. Id be heartbroken if i saw someone else driving off in it :(

That is just awesome. Nothing will be as fun! Get it on ITB's ;)

I am very attached to mine as it is the first car i have owned and will be sad to see it go but am looking forward to upgrading.

  M135i and the shed
Not sure that would make it anymore fun tbh, just quicker, which as ive discovered, just becomes less useable on the road ...

This. Do the basics of tuning (filter, exahsut, map etc), keep it cheap, reliable and then enjoy the rewards of value performance and reliability. :)

When I recently had an accident in my cup I would of been devastated if it was written off and it was very very close. I probably would of bought it back and fixed it.

If I had to sell it I probably would cry seeing someone else drive it off.

Its a bit sad I love it that much really lol. Well, so I'm told.

Only reason I've got a Clio 172 is I miss my old 182. Had it from new as my first car and saved my nuts off to get it. Did 47,000 miles in it within 18 months. Now I've got a rough round the edges 172 which I've already spent too much money on all ready ( as most of the people selling parts on here can testify)

But I'd gladly have CK04TXM back in a heartbeat

Having a bit of this dilemma now,
The clio even though it's just a 1.2 8v, has had my heart put into..

Bought it new, modded it myself, repaired a lot of it myself, I know the car, know what it can and can't do.

Tomorrow I make the decision if I'm going to get a Volvo C30 T5 I viewed today, and trading the clio against it.

Even though with the clio the insurance where I am now is a joke for a group 1 (and lack of power), and it also just failed it's MOT last year and spent a fair whack fixing it up, and just got new seats fitted too.. I still love the thing, when it's cleaned it looks mint, I remember why I'm happy with it.
But the power, and space in the car, for the amount I'm paying, is ridiculous, so tomorrow I make the decision..

I don't think it will be an easy one, but gotta upgrade sometime!

True petrolhead I'd say, I sold my first car, 1.2 mk2 on 15/11/10 after 3 years and 42,000 miles and I still miss it. It doesnt matter if you are pleased with your new purchase (as I was) or not, seeing "your" car at the garage with a price on it gives you that sick/weird feeling IMO.

I think you are dead right there - if I had the pain of seeing my 197 going round the area where I live, or on the forecourt of the local dealer (which it could well have been), it would have been just too painful! She's in Plymouth now, miles and miles away, so hopefully no danger of that happening :)

I'm gonna go and take a pic of it and send it to you.

I don't think I'll ever sell my first car if I can help it. Even if it's just once in a blue moon, it'd be nice to take the little fella out for a spin like the old days.

Completely agree with OP, My memory is terrible - I can't remember names, phones numbers, address's, hell even what I had for Tea.

I can however remember the reg plate from every car I've had and the many memories attached to them - You 100% become attached, especially when you do the repairs/up keep yourself (Being a car club, the demograph on here will more likely be attached to their car then say joe public)

i was emotionally attached to my first 172, it was hard to let it go but i was doing loads of miles, had my DCi and really needed the money more, so i let it go. wouldnt say id buy it back though.

only car id ever buy back is my original first clio 1.2 just purely for the memories with it, my mum bought it brand new when i was 14 with the intention that in 3yrs time i could buy it off her at 17 when it was being replaced, so i spent 3 years washing it every week, taking care of it and planning it!

id like to be attached to my 200 but after what ive went thru, i hate it.

The only reason you could possibly ever justify getting emotionally attached to a car is if your Mrs dropped a sprog (preferably yours) on the front seat

Yes.

The 182 was dropped off at Birchdown yesterday and I've thought about it a few times today. Even though it's being looked after - you still hope that it's ok! As I've said before, if either the 182 or the Evo had to go - the Evo would be up for sale first. It's a great car - but I don't feel attached to it like I do with the Clio. The 182 is that favourite jacket.... or that pair of jeans you've had for just a 'bit too long' - but still wear.

Finance was paid off many years ago - so it's simply TLC and running costs that I chuck at it. I was a bit gutted when the Punto GT went before it. But I know I will be proper mopey if/when the Clio goes....

There's a 182-shaped hole in my life and it's not going anywhere quickly.

I'm fairly certain I'll always miss that car. :dapprove:

I'll always regret selling my xr2. I'm attached to my 106 because it's served it's purpose of providing ultra cheap transport so I could clear debts flawlessly. It would be cruel to scrap it now! I keep cars too long and get attached that's my trouble.

Tell you what's worse

Owning a car for 2 years and plowing £7k and 100's of hours into it after buying. Loving it but can't afford to run it in new job.

Heartbreakingly selling it for £3k

Checking on the forum to see if the new owner had posted up anything about it recently on there after 2 months and see it written off

Actually nearly threw up.. Though he would take care of her :(

I'm not selling my clio, have it just a bit over 5 years now, and still love every bit of it!.
can't sell my subaru too, even more history with that... had that for about 13 years now

  Ph 1 172
I'll never sell my phase 1 172, its worth more to me than what id get in selling it. I also just had close on too 2k spent on it. So mechanically its sound for a few more years (I hope)

As above i think i would be proper gutted! how do i sum my 'relationship' with my 182 i def love it!! its not put one footstep wrong and there is something about it which leaves me attached to it, will have had it 2 years next month. i have stages of just wanting to sell up for something else but i know i would kick myself for it. and as above would hate myself if someone else wrote it off after the amount of time and money i have put into the little beast but.....i have this little itch for a little lupo gti for a few years now.

  'Mia' Rover Mini 35
When I was 8 or 9 my grandad had a 405 diesel, Shocking car. But i'd grown up with it. I still miss that car. Last year i found out it had been driven through a rather large brick wall and what was left of my grandads 405 was the hub caps.

  Clio 172 ph2
My lil baby is 10yrs old this September and I would have had her for 5yrs on her birthday! Everytime I go for a drive she puts a smile on my face! I will NEVER sell her! Even if the engine goes... I'll replace the engine! Oh yes... I'm talking about my 172!!!

To me that sounds horrific and enough of a reason to get rid of a car.

  Inferno 225 cup
Hi ive just got ti say I've had my 182 since Sunday afternoon and before this I had a Megane 225, I can totally understand why you guys love te 182, it corners like a house fly, it's a comfy ride and looks the part and love it more then the 225 Ive just sold, I know the Bhp/speed thing is different from N/A and the turbo but I'm sold on the 182.

:)
