engine change information pls

as some of u know i've blown my head gasket and now steam pours out my exhaust. :( the engine is a 1.4e (j reg rt) and has done about 87k(ish)
i've been quoted about £150 to have it fixed (includes all fluids and all belts changed as well, also head skimming i think) but ive seen winston has a 1.8 rsi engine for sale (sub 60k miles) and i was wondering is it an easy job to change and how much would i be looking at for someone to do it?
are all the pipes and tubing and electrical connectors in the same place in the engine bay, will it need a new gearbox and what about inside, will the current dash displays all work or will they need to be changed?

and......finally.....

what about the legality of it? obviously i'd have to tell the insurance people but is there anyone else id have to inform? dvla i presume?

sorry, i know its a lot, but honestly you guys are the best people to ask what with the amount of knowledge on here.

thanks,
richard

you have to re-register a new engine with the car.

if you want to change the engine, you'll need to get all the parts corrisponding to that engine...new wiring loom/ecu/pipes ect. sometimes you even have to change gearbox/driveshafts/suspension. but iv never looked into that specific switch so i wouldnt know for sure.

for £150 id have it fixed! that sounds like an amazingly low price for what you say they'll do! you cant buy a decent 2nd hand engine cheaper than that...
