Engine Conversion

Hi all,

Does anyone know any place in Scotland (or as close as possible) where I can get an RSi/16v engine put into my 1.4RT?

Im after a recon engine, not a second hand. Renault5Alive do it (£1500 all in) but their engines have done 50K

Anyways, anyone here from Kirkcaldy/Glenrothes?

Locutus

um......why?
whats wrong with buying a 16V?
the money you spend will just be even with buying a 16V, and it will cost the same to insure anyway?
Or do you just want street sleeper?
Im in the process of buying dazzes 130BHP rt motor, but its still an rt motor.

Hi,

The reason is because Ive done so much to my car that it would actually be cheaper to put a recon engine in that buying a 16v and doing it up to the same standard as my car is just now.

well, i know what you mean, as i have done alot to the chassis of my rt, however, a standard 16V would probably handle better as the torsion bar on the rt is very thin and soft.....making it understeer heavily!

i was looking at the mounting points for the drms and discs and though that they would swap straight over, asn no need to swap the axle. Anyway, does the 16V one just bolt on, and what about the compensator valve, does it take a while to get it spot on?
Or could i take the torsion barout the 16V and put it in the rts axle?
oh, i have picks of my rt up in the main forum, do youhave any you could post up there, or give to me to post up?

I was told by my garage that the brakes wont go on the rt axle, so I had to buy the 16v one.

As for fitting it, I dont have a scooby. I just drive the thing

Ill have to get a lend of my mates digicam so I can take some pics. Ill give them to you when Ive done it.

wicked!
well, ill look into the axle bit. If you could also take piccies of your rear axle/ discs and calipers and onclude a measurement for the two bolts that hold the caliper on, it would be ever so helpful.
Do you have the 16V front calipers and discs on, i do and they make such a difference. But you need the larger master cylinder to reduce pedal travel though.
What shocks/springs you running, lowered how much? wheels etc.
Cheers mate.

I had Black Diamond make custom discs for me using greenstuff.

Heres what Ive done to the body so far:

Lowered 35mm on KYBs
15" OZ F1 lookalikes painted Gold
16v Bonnet and wings
Prima spoiler
M3 Mirrors
Blue with Violet Flip respray
Custom twin exit (either side) exhaust

Twanged the car at the rear last week, so gonna need new axle, rear q/panel, exhaust pipe etc

Dunno if Ill get a new axle as Ive still got my old rt one and the brakes dont make too much of a difference. I was thinking of putting the 16v rear q/panels on as the front is wider than the back at the moment, or I can get a wide arch kit from Prima. The exhaust is lifetime guarantee and RMS said that they will just bend it back into shape.

Dont you just hate people that dont know how to stop at a f***in roundabout!!!

Me

But its just the engine, no ECU etc

probs only suitable for somebody who wants to replace a 16v engine that has just died really

Are you talking about 5 Alive in London? Dont even think about it mate. Me and Tony and WOngy went down there to have a look at their Willy lump and gearbox, they wanted £2000 fitted or £1700 cash and carry.

The place looked like no scrapyard Ive ever seen before - it was a total mess. The Willy had just been crashed but they didnt think it necessary that the engine be actually checked over for its condition or anything. They would have been happy to take the engine straight out and sell it like that for top dollar money. Rip off merchants.

Just out of interest how much would it cost (approx) to wack a 172 lump in a mk2 ph2 (2001) 1.2???? I know its probably cheaper to buy a 172, but i was just interested to find out the cost

You thought about just having the RT engine done up. Nick at Hill Power told me about one he made upto 120 ish BHP. He said because it was 8v it had shed loads of pull at the lower revs but topped out at higher speeds.

Its probably cheaper than £2,000 anyway!

Can an RT running gear (drive shafts, clutch, gearbox etc ..) take that kind of power though?

yes it can
and that was probably darren f engine.
running about 135bhp.
Nick hill has /is just finishing off his megan 1.6 engine conversion for the rt. With lumenition ecu and a 2.0 throttle body.
Should be interesting has got some potential that conversion me thinks

i have just struck the deal with darren and his 130BHP rt motor. Moneys in the post . And i have ak-tek racing side exit zorst, supersprint 4-2-1 manifold, and a computer controlled, progressive nitro kit from the ststes!!! will be good for 190HP with nitro. He said it could keep up with 16V up to 60.....nuff said!

This message board that ClioSport uses is absolutely sh*t!!! Why the f*** did they use this one

Im Locutus, but everytime I login, I cant do anything other than view posts so I had to re-register. I recommend they use something like phpBB2 or XMB. Much better than this.

Anyways, back to the topic.

Where is Hillpower? Do they have a website? Im really interested if I can do up my RT as I was told by Falkland that there is nothing I can do to it.

Do you know if they do engine conversions or sell recon engines? Im asking this because my rt has 94k on the clock, so I dont really want to do up an old engine.

yeah, they will mod a newer engine for you, or you can get their new 1.6 megane engine put in, or the willy 2ltr lump.
www.hillpower.co.uk

I have a 1995 Clio 1.4RT and want to have more power. Problem is it has 94K on the clock, so I dont think it would be a good starting point.

What are my options?

Should I fit a recon 1.4 engine in it then start the mods from there?

Or would I be better getting a transplant? I was thinking of this but dont know what engine to go for. 1.8 or 2.0? If I did this, would I not need an awful lot of things modified on my car?

Also, whats the diff between the megane transplant and the willy engine?

Do you know how much each of the above options will cost me? I dont really want to get rid of my car as Ive spent quite a lot on it already. My budget is around £5K

thatsmore than plenty. you could get the megane blocked engine, with T/bodies or maybe webber alpha kit. Will have less power than the willy lump, well, its more of a bored/stroked 1.8 block, but there thesame anyway. The 1.4 135BHP RT engine cost darren 3000 odd quid i think. But 5 grand is more than enough. Depends on what you want, im keeping the rt lump because it will keep the front end lighter, a 2ltr joddie with drive shafts, gearbox, mounts will be real heavy.

With 5 grand I would go for the megan transplant(around 2000 but not finallised and thats with a low milage engine say around 10 000)then have the head polished and ported with a cam and a 2.0 throttle body.
Then get the front brake upgrade also from hillpower tarox 2 pot caliper and disks....better than the 16v brakes, nice
with all this your car will fly and stop on a 2 pence piece.
And you should have a fair bit of your 5000 left to spend on other things like fron tyres..lol.

Hi,

What kind of power would I be looking at here? What would the performance figures be like and how would it fare against the 16v/willy and other cars?

Sounds really interesting though

  (ex-2.0 Hybrid)CorradoVR6

The only thing I can say would be to go up to Hillpower and get nick to take u out in it.
Well its 90bhp as standard couple that to induction kit, exhaust cat replacement pipe lumition ecu and at a guess I recon about 105bhp, but dont forget it has far greater torque than our 1.4 pluss couple that to the 1.4 box you have a rapid motor with a lot of tunning potential.
I cant say 0-60 times cus I dont no but Dazz F has been out in it and said it shifted.
I am thinking about it for mine instead of a 16v.

  (ex-2.0 Hybrid)CorradoVR6

Nicks just done a 16.3 quarter mile....feck me now if that isent quick
just imagine with sorted head

*Starts drooling*

I know thats fast, but what does that equate to in speed roughly?

Also, where did you get this information? Its not on their website?

  (ex-2.0 Hybrid)CorradoVR6

Well I think a standard 16v does the quarter mile in around 16seconds.
Yeah your right its not on the web site yet.
Give nick a ring and speak to him on:
01530273633.
Just spoke to a bloke whos been out in it.
Pluss I have been up there a few times in the last month or so and have been following the conversion.

Heres a bit of an update for you on the 1.6 engine conversion. The engine is currently runing standard, with a few mods. Induction kit cat bypass pipe and Lumenition engine management with a set of Clio 16v injectors. I have been using one of the ap22 acceleration meters which have been reviewed by the cliosports club. best result to date 1/4 mile 16.1 sec 0-60 8sec cant wait to get the large throttle body on. Basic conversion is pretty much ready stage 2 in development( large throttle) then we are moving on to the ported head version. Keep you posted hopefull soon on hillpower.co.uk. any question meantime call me at the workshop 01530 273633.
