Engine Cuts Out on Start Up????

Am having abit of a problem with my ph1 172, a couple of time over the past few week it dies as soon as I start it, it splutters as if its trying to get going and just dies, now I know Clios take a few sec to switch over with the fuel pump and it was very hot days this happen so I just presumed that it was the heat affecting it, but twice this week, not overly warm it has happened, should I be concerned???

First port of call would be coolant temp sensor. Cheap and easy diy replacement.

Do a search on here, been mentioned many times.

How would the coolant temp sensor effect the car starting up tho?

could be a number of things:

coolant temp sensor as already mentioned

coil pack damp - plugs on spark plugs damp and need dried out - spray with wd40

or tdc sensor located ontop of gearbox - might be dirty and needs wiped.

i'd start off with them and see how you get on

My idle / start up is crap in this warm weather too. Must be a Clio thing? lol

Another one to check maybe, idle control valve. Might be worth a jet with carb cleaner if its not been done before

i get the same prob start it first time when cold it dies then try again it starts fine.

I have 2 keys and it does this with one and is totaly fine with the other. I am putting it down to the imoboliser. Guess in your case it wouldnt be this as u r using the same key everytime??

Ive tried both keys and it happens with both, to be honest the common factor is the warm weather, it starts fine on ok days n at night just when its in the 20s and its been sitting outside work all day it sumtimes dies.

mine is doing this right now too. If u find the issue let me know. I think the last concensus was it was the TDC. Although i took mine out and cleaned it but it didnt fix it. They now replace these and use new wiring loom for it...

i'm having exact same problem. Only in mornings though. First time i start it it starts and splutters and dies unless i rev it to get it going. Otherwise second time is fine.

+1, had that sort of bother with mine and turned out to be a faulty battery, can get them tested free at halfords

Mine s doing the same thing 2! Thought there was something wrong with it, but obviously it's just a s**t renault! Lol! It's ok when the weather is not so warm!
