have you tried your spare key?

Re: Urgent help needed!!!

no as i didnt have it on me, the immobiliser isnt built into the central locking button its on a key switch inside the glove box i was driving and it cut out, someone has said its the actual key sensor but i dont know.

Give it chance youth, not everyone is glued to their PCs waiting to respond to problems. At least wait an hour or 2 for a response not 10 mins...

Again try your second key..

Mate don't take this the wrong way but A, Having "Urgent help needed" as a topic title isn't exactly the best topic title to attract mechanical help and B, Why not gove people more than 10 minutes to answer? Have you considered it's nearly 9pm and alot of people may be watching TV etc..?

That's not meant as criticism just trying to help you get a decent response.

i didnt know what else to put my other two threads have actully described the problem and like i said ive had no replys!

Yeah and as said above not everyone has chance to sit a computer day in day out 24/7...You just have to be patient mate and give the monkeys a chance to get out their tree :rasp:

I've edited the title for you to try and attract some more replies. If you want it changing back just let me know.

Somtimes the people who know the answers don't notice the posts were only human.

Just bump a thread up and someone will notice it who know the answer.

Expecting an answer this quick (15 minutes) seems a bit unrealistic or have I got something wrong?

I've asnwered your question though I think earlier check your fuses for the fuel pump.

  Mk1 Hybrid
The fuel pump is working you hear it kick in, if you turn on the immobiliser and turn the key nothing no fuel pump noise or nothing, turn off the immobilser and try the key you hear the fuel pump kick in when ignition is on turn the key and starter motor turning over but no fire in the cylinder, havent checked sparks because it should still fire up on 2-3 cylinders ive been informed that the actual key which the immobilser works off might have had it and cause the immobilder to be constantly on in a way!? but i dont know

  Mk1 Hybrid
no the starter is ok it turns over and had no problems with it before, tryed bump starting it aswel, it just made the sound of the starter turning over when trying the key there is a real strong smell of fuel!

Check if you get a spark might be a loose wire in the ignition system.
Is the starter motor actually turning the engine as they arn't that good if it isn't turing the engine anyway the ignition won't fire. Have u tried bump starting it that would explain if its a starter motor issue.

........ even if it was the starter motor how does that explain it cutting out on me at a junction???

When you say it 'cut out', did the car lose power and then die, or did it die just as you pulled up? Has it got a seperate condensor or is it built into the alternator? It could well be a fault on the immobiliser, but seems unlikely. It could be a dodgy lead or plug and wont necessarily fire and start on 3 cyclinders (depends on firing order usually). Could also be a faulty ignition coil, you need to be able to test whether you have a spark or not. I can't really think of anything else it could be right at this moment.

the shitty immob has nothing to do with this, it acts solely on the fuel pump relay, using another key won't make a difference either, car doesn't care if its a key or a screwdriver smacked into the barrel.

Also the crap about the thing going on 2 or 3 cylinders, it doesn't have coil packs does it?
No thats right a coil and dizzy.

First remove the injectors power feed as its already flooded enough.

When you turn the ignition on does the tacho needle jump slightly? Does it move when cranking? if not then it could be the module or the CAS or TDC sensor as you lot like to call it although it doesn't actually detect TDC.

Get a multi meter on the crank sensors plug, you wan 230 - 270 ish ohms, if its open circuit then its fooked bang another in there.

Pull the coil lead off the dizzy, stick an old or a new plug into it and rest on the cam cover, crank it over, I very much doubt theres a spark. if there is though is it a bright blue one that gives off a 'crack' noise, if its yellow or sounds weak then we go to the...

ignition module, the coil is held to the module by 2 T20 screws, the coil pulls off, its connected to the module by wiper contacts which corrode, if they are corroded they can eventually arc and then no spark, clean them up as they will be corroded to some extent.

Done that and still no spark go get another module or swap with one from another car and plug it in see if it sparks then.

Also make sure the rotor arm or dizzy isn't cracked as it will then just track to earth.

When you get it sparking crank it over witht he throttle floored it will splutter a few times, when it stops spluttering then all the fuels out, plug the injector back in and fire it up.

I had the exact same problem with my valver and it was the coil pack. As yours doesnt have a coil pack, sounds like a dodgy earth to me.

  Ph1 172
Try taking both the battery terminals off and cleaning them up, especially the earth where it connects to the shell. Sometimes, if your earth is touching but not quite earthing properly it will turn over but not start. The fact it cut out when you stopped at a junction sounds like it could be that too especially if it was an eratic stop. Slamming on might have just loosed that connection enough to make it cut out. Has it ever cut out when going round a corner or anything like that? Try it anyway it will only take you 10 mins, if not I'd call an auto electrician out to it.

  Mk1 Hybrid
Cheers for the info, time and effort into your reply Chris H, its very much appreciated. I havent checked to see if there is a definate spark from the coil lead, however i have replaced the coil today and still have this problem it wasnt an eractic stop i just stoped like i usually do! but the junction was on a bend, i am going to check the condition of the dizzy and rotary arm as soon as possible as my car is currently the other side of town and i have no transport there and back! thanks once again

Dan

  Mk1 Hybrid
i have checked the dizzy and rotary arm and they are both fine, i still havent checked for a spark yet as i havent been able to! i will be able to over the weekend though! i will let you know how it goes!

  Mk1 Hybrid
Ive got an auto electrician coming out to it tomorrow after work! Hopefully he can tell me what it is and hopefully its nothing to drastic! :S
