engine doesnt seem to cam up

  clio sport 182
since putting my bmc cda on my 182 engine has its moments camming up,some days when the cam kicks in it pulls well but tonight it was seriously lacking,any ideas?oil fine,no weird noises no lights on dash etc

it will be to do with airflow and cold air feeds (CAF). If your CAF is too sharply bent or sucking warm air from somewhere in the engine bay then you'll loose power.

It's a shame to hear, I thought the BMC CDA was a quality product.
Pics of the kit installed?

not got pics at the moment but the air feed runs where the existing is as iv taken the acoustics valve out,where it enters the cda itself is quite tightly bent,couldnt find another caf for it as i have aircon

There is a little pipe that goes from the acoustic valve back to near the throttle body, that needs to be blocked off?

Its gotta be there cold air feed surely, have seen some pics of these installed & every one seems to throw a 90+ degree bend right after the airbox :S no brainner really...

Its nothing to do with the cams unless you have different ones. The kick that you feel at 5k which i guess your relating to is all just fuel and ignition. I thought the bmc thing was awful when i fitted it to my car tbh. standard was better! made it feel sluggish

It's probably psychological tbh. Putting things like decats and induction kits on can make the engine breath a bit more freely it's probably just opened it up lower in the rev range lessening the feel of the kick/step you feel when the car comes "on cam"

renault dropped the oil about a month ago when they had the car after the final drive output seal went

Does the flap in the acoustic valve not open at some point which would make the kick harder? Thats my theory as to why people think the std box is better...as loony said the kick might be less pronounced due to having a little more low down power.

Try re-setting the ecu and see if that helps a bit

When all said and done youve fitted a IK which in theory is freeing up the air supply over stock (potentially running lean aka drop in power) so might need the fueling adjusting (remap) to suit.

Could be that the there's less overlap in the map so it all 'blends in' when the 'kick' hits, or could be as already mentioned all psychological :)

yeah true but that would explain the car actually being slower tho

Quantifiable or perception? it's easy to say something seems faster or slower but have you got any actual proof to back it up. May sound harsh but alot of people bang on about doing minor things on this forum and saying the car feels slower or faster but I find it hard to beleive a potential 2/3hp either way (which is what an IK would lose or gain) could be detected.

well me and my mate had a play about him in his saxo vtr and me in my 182,b4 i wasted it,this time i didnt leave it as much

No offence but that's hardly a good gauge, lol. Prime example being people's 1/4 mile times. Same car on difference occasions can produce wildly different results unless the driver is very consistant. Too many variables IMO.

He has standard cams in he has only fitted an IK. It's probably worth mentioning that the VVT system in the RS engines is not like that of a VTEC and it activates at about 1500 RPM so when people talk about the 5k kick or the car being on cam they're not talking about a VVT related change.

problem solved,iv put all my original renault induction parts park on and the car has so much more life now,it was the bmc

Since carrying out the following on my 172, engine wise -

* Itg pannel filter
* Mathced Inlets, from Angel works
* Acoustic valve removed
* Improved cold air-feeds
* Group N re-map
* Gray's 2.5" bore de-cat
* Powerflow 2.5" bore full stainless sytem

The 5k kick has become much stronger than when it was standard & there is plenty more torque in the lower revs.. this maybe because mine is getting near to 1000kgs of weight though compared to the standard 1,100kgs :D
