Engine help-Restarting an engine that has been sat for months

  audi a6 3.0tdi
How would you go about it? the engine was taken out of the car when i crashed and put into storage now i'm selling the engine and the buyer needs to know what to do. Obviously you wouldn't just fit the engine and run it so would you have to do and oil change then turn the engine over by hand first then when you do start it leave it idling for a good while before gradually building the revs? This was a great engine so i don't want it being damaged buy not starting it correctly when fitted so any advise would be greatly accepted.

If the oil is still within its service interval it'll probably be OK.

I'd turn it over by hand from the crank pulley a few times.

Then disconnect the coil pack and crank it on the starter a few times.

Then give it a go for real.

I'd let it reach normal temp at idle and check for leaks etc. Then I'd say it should be fine, just be vigilant for a few weeks...

How long is months?

For the most part it'll be fine but if it has sat for a long, long time then obviously make sure all fluids are good and get some oil around the engine before firing - this could simply be spinning it over on the starter.

yeah, crank over with the crank sensor disconnected for say 30seconds.
The when its started keep it at a high idle for maybe 10mins, just to keep pressure up so as to ensure good oil supply is achieved to the head.

Give it a hundred miles and change oil/filter.

In addition, i'd remove the spark plugs and put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder before cranking it over, and leave the plugs out while cranking

Its been sat for about 8 months now. It was long before the crash that the oil was changed so it should be fine.

Thanks everyone
