Engine hot or cold for oil change

  ex Clio 172 owner :(

Hi dudes, little bit off topic as Ive got a VTS but I cant be bothered to get mucky and stuff (and its cold). Ive booked my car for an oil change next Monday after work, but the car will be hot. Is that ok? The mechanic says it is as the oil will be thinner and drain easier. Id have thought it was better for it to all be in the sump and very little left in rest of engine.

For best results, what would you suggest?

If I do get it done on a hot engine, will it be ok still though?

Any recommendations on which oil for a VTS? (I asked Saxo lot on ssc without much help)

Cheers budsters.

I think luke warm is best. dont want to scald yourself when you accently drop the drain plug into the oil tray and have to fish it out with your arm after the entire contents of your engine is in it now..

not that this happend to me ofcourse.

Cheers guys, Ill drop it off at 3:30, they shut at 5:30 so I guess theyll let it cool down first. I just thought itd be best cold as all the oil will be in the sump and you can easily get rid of it all when you drain the sump.

think about it mate, once you turn the key any oil thats in the sump will be pumped around the engine......so even travelling to the garage you will have moved any oil that was drained down into the sump

definitely do it hot, the hotter the better

yep....the hotter the better

yep, like they said, the oil wont be red hot anyway unless your doing it touring car stylee and they have the plug out before youve got out, so it will be fine.
