Engine light

  2004 Renault Clio
Howdy folks!

I wasn't sure if this topic have been on this forum before. Every day for the past week, i drive from blackburn to leeds and back adding up to roughly 120 miles total per day.
Before i started the job, i check the car system such as oil, water, fuse etc. All is fine for the long run. On friday, heading towards leeds, the engine light came on but the car is fine. checked everything again but can't find the source of the reason. The light stayed on until this morning when it turned itself off.
Anyone have any suggestions or explanations on the reason why the engine light was on and suddenly turned itself off after a few days?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Dan

What sort of clio? engine size etc.
When you say 'engine light' do you mean the light that is on the left-side dial (revs) called the MIL? It is referred to as the Toxic emission system light in your handbook if it's this one.
This can flick on for all sorts of reasons, on my 1.4, this was coming on due to a failing coil-pack. This sits ontop of the spark plugs and they commonly wear out and need replaced. There's been several revisions of them since the cars manufacture.
Does the car shudder or 'limp' at all when this light comes on?

This is only one possibility though!

It's a 1.2, car was acting fine as usual. i checked the manual for the car and it simply said "engine warning". I'll get the car checked out at a garage next week anyway.
