Engine Management Light (Birmingham)

got a little problem i think,

was driving on the motorway at a steady 6omph then akk of a sudden my engine management light came on.

Now i didnt lose any power or anything car still runs fine, do i need to get it to a garage to see what the problem is?

and if so does anybody know of anybody good and reliable in birmingham to look at it at diagnose the problem?
