Engine Management Light ( EML), Limp mode and Emmisions light

  BMW E92 320D
Hi guys

Went to the car wash on Saturday. As I drove out, my car went into limp mode ( Clio 172 cup). The light in the centre of the dashboard came on ( looks like a heartbeat). Took the car home not being able to drive above 2.5k rpms.

Switched it off, started the car again about an hour later. The light went off, but now the light that looks like an engine symbol is on and stays on. There are no issues other then this light staying on.

I have run pcmscan to get the error codes, and I got this "P0120 $7A". I am not sure what this is, or where I can go to get more info. Does anyone know where I can get more help on these types of errors?

I have searched for this error, and OTHER forums suggest that that error is related to the throttle sensor. I am not sure if that is the same for Clio's. Need to be sure before I fork out any dosh :)

Another question. Lets say I get this fixed by replacing the sensor, how do I switch the light off ( which I am guessing is the engine management light. Does anyone know what the heartbeat light is? )

Cheers in advance guys!

I had EXACTLY the same thing last week.

Car dried out right'n quick, i believe it was damp in the TPS or something.

I had the emissions light on for a week but it went off eventually.

My only concern is that i believe that historic codes (i.e. no longer active) can still affect the way the car runs

So the light that is still on (looks like an engines symbol) is the emissions light? Whats TPS?

TPS is the throttle position sensor. Its in the throttle body which is probably the most sensitive bit of all of the engine electrics.

is your car driving ok now apart from the emissions light?

The red engine symbol in the centre of the dash is the engine warning light, serious problems. The amber engine light to the right, bottom of the dash is the emmisions warning light.

i had this; also read the code out on clip and it was related to Throttle Positioning sensor. When reading up on here on all related problems (TPS faults) you get to feel sad as there are very few who fully cured their problems ! :dapprove:

Some have changed their pedal-unit, fault still there ... Butterfly/TB unit, fault still there... Only one on here never got the fault back but this was after he changed the ECU !!? ($$$$)

I was also starting to feel hopeless but had a look under the hood, pulled out the plug from the back of the TB , cleaned the connectors and stuck it back in.. PROB SOLVED (going three weeks now without limping!)
Good luck..

I feel somewhat fortunate too in that mine fixed itself after a bloody good hoke.

Im still looking forward to getting my rstuner to see/clear the codes.

Just thought about something.

when I got my car washed, the guy used a pressure washer. So I can guess as soon as I drove out, and it entered into limp mode it was due to moisture. I think it would be prudent for me to not that the cover for my fuse box is missing. I will get one and put it on this week. I wonder if water got into the fusebox and caused the problem with the TPS. Maybe it ain't the TPS but something in the fusebox, maybe a fuse for the TPS??

Today was the first time since Saturday the light went of. Much happier about that.

I also removed my itg filter and cleaned it. I feel the car has a lot more power than previously. I wonder if that could of be causing the emissions light to go?

You see, I just can't understand why the Emissions light will come on?

I have an EML 327 OBD2 connector and I used PCMSCAN to scan the codes. Whats a good program to get. Anyone know on the top of their head?

maybe "the guy" who washed your car with a jetwasher wass being an ass and sprayed a load of water up the exhaust, wet cat will make funny things happen ..

quite a long way from the tailpipes to the cat, some bends too. you sure water could travel that far? can't imagine someone holding the jet long enough on the pipes causing water to reach the cat but people can have bad ideas sometimes lol
