Engine Management light

  Renault Clio 172 Cup
Hi all,

I have an 03 clio cup it is fitted with a KTEC sports cat, Piper box filter and runs 99 Oct fuel. The engine light will come on from time to time, which I know is emission reading fault, Now it has reduced power and flashes, the light goes off for a while then under acceleration flashes again. Anyone had the same fault and how was it fixed and the costs involved.

Thanks.

I had a similar issue where when I'd be sat in traffic and it would flash but as soon as I was moving properly again it would go off. Spoke to my friendly garage and got it plugged in and it was showing a miss fire. He suggested a I changed the plugs, so i did and low and behold it had bosch super plus's in. I accordingly put the proper NGK's in and haven't had a problem since about 3 days after once the system had bedded them in.

So in summary, check your plugs and get the error message removed.

Cheers for the advice.

Thanks.

No worries mate - keep me posted on what you find and I'll have a further think. But for me it was definitely spark plugs. Make sure you put the proper NGK's in...

You are best to get it plugged in to a code reader first to determine why the light has come on in the first place. Then you can make a decision on what to replace. There is no point in replacing parts without knowing what fault code has been thrown.

It would be well worth checking the plugs anyway... a worthwhile and inexpensive exercise. And more importantly, if they say Bosch (or anything but NGK) on them he has his answer without having the hassle of booking it into a garage...

Had it checked out earlier today, and it appears to be a failure on one of the coil pack plugs. Will replace the spark plugs during it's service next month.

If you're getting it serviced in a garage, but the plugs yourself and take them along, unless they are a reputable garage that will put the proper plugs in... I might have a look @ my coil pack plugs... is that just a case of buying new leads?
