Engine mod advice

  Clio 172
Hi there, i have just got myself a 172 and i love it! I really want to improve the car more, but to be honest, i have no idea about engines and modificating them!

Ideally, id like to increase the bhp and to a more sporty performance..bearing in mind i dont really want to effect the MPG of the car as its really thirsty at the moment lol.. this is going to be the first time i have attempted to modify a car.

I've read some other posts about engine mods and stuff, and from what ive seen, i should be looking at getting a performance filter??

If anyone can give me some advice on what parts will be good for my car please let me know,

thanks :)

The basic rule in NA tuning;

To produce more power you need to increase the charge density in the engine. Eg; how much oxygen makes it into the the cylinder during the filling stage of the combustion cycle.

If you don't fully understand the combustion cycle (or Ottoman cycle as it is commonly known) google it - very straight forward in simple terms.

Add a dose of flammable fuel and a well timed spark and away we go :)

To maxmise the potential of a stock engine you need to de-restrict it at both ends (intake and exhaust) and choose a suitable ECU (Engines Brain) calibration that controls the aforementioned Fuel and spark.

Next up, track days and driving tuition :D
