Engine mods to accommodate booooost....

A

ashy_gtt

Hello,

I am just about to strip and rebuild a couple of 172 engines and the plan is to run a turbo. Would anyone be able to offer any advice on what sort of modifications would be necessary. Has anyone reduced the CR or found its necessary to change the rods or pistons...... would the manifold need to be custom made or is ther an off the shelf manifold from a turbo diesel that i would find in a scrapyard? I guess a megane 225 would work but im assuming they are £££

any hep appreciated.

Regards Niall.

All depends how much 'boooooost' your wanting to run.

Low boost, a modified combustion chamber and stock engine will drop CR to about 9:1

But if your planning on running anything like 1 bar then i would run some forgies minimum.

You might be able to use the turbo varient F4R ex manifolds, but they have queer turbo flange bolt patterns.
