These any good or should i get genuine ones?

Now my car does not knock at all, but gears are not as smooth as they should be, and i can move the engine loads if i pull on it and i Understand the car will feel lot better to drive if i do them.

Is it an easyish job?
They all the mounts i'll need?

Yeh you need them 3 mounts, upper gearbox, lower front gearbox and upper engine mount, also dog bone mount! easy enough to do yeh.

Dogbone Mount, http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=1485

I'd try changing the dog bone mount first and see if that makes a change, then maybe change the rest! as the dog bone one is the one that is at fault for the engine 'rolling' so much, when worn.

Not sure if i want that uprated one as heard it puts strain on all the others.

What the k-tec ones like, can't imagine them being any worse than the renault ones?

i think them set of 3 from k-tec are maybe genuine renault ones? Correct me if im wrong.

I'm not sure, the second pic of 4 shows made in germany and a different logo on the mount, is this the same as standard?

Im not sure if they are genuine, they wouldnt be any worse than genuine renault ones anyway i wouldnt imagine.

German pattern parts are crap, cost the nearly same as genuine Renault parts. Renaults are not that good but will stand abuse upto a point.

I had a pattern dog bone on my car for a couple of weks, granted it had been midified with a metal shim to make it a little stiffer, but the difference in size and weight alone was just silly. The Renault mount was twice the size! Will probably refresh mine with genuine renault mounts this year :)

So all reckon it's worth doing? How much would a garage charge to do it you reckon?

I was charged £80 to fit all three (lower g/b, upper g/b and dogbone) genuine Renault mounts along with a 'modification' to the lower one to stop knocking as the track car obviously takes a load of abuse.

Cheers for that Fred, lol next question is what are the part numbers

Might just have ago myself, can't be that hard.

As mentioned the dog bone is a common prob on the sports so changing that for a poly bush is the best bet. I am pushing for an aftermarket set to be made in the new year but until march time i dont think its gonna be ready. Ive looked into it and will continue to push when im back!!

knackers the other mounts IMO, by reducing the engine movement at the bottom, it just gets worse at the top

but hey, you pay yer money and make yer choice!

the drivers side top mount is actually ok its the passenger side gearbox mount that throws all the play. Weve broke a couple in half running on the rollers with the 182.

have you snapped that large bolt that goes through it into the mounting on top of the box yet?

that top mount wears like a b*****d!

Cheers for the Info Fred,

Just my gears are pretty notchy and crap, reckon it's worth changing just the Top Gearbox mount then?

Mark defo go for the uprated ones!

  Lionel Richie
the lower one always gets neglected and they're always knackered when i see them

is this the second hand box?

not sure about the 172 but when i had my 1.2 i had the polly bushes in the lower gearbox mount for 10,000 hard miles and the top mounts were fine after that (and they had done 140k!)

Sorry yeah Service exchanged i believe. Was £600ish at trade price.

  Lionel Richie
^yep service exchange, will have a 12month warranty on it i would assume, so if does go tits up you'll be ok

  Monaco 172
see the ktec lower gearbox mount...when fitted does it stay that shape? as when i checked mine its definitely not that shape, it looks stretched?

  Welcome to the L4yer
IMO what ever you do don't fit uprated poly bushes in the lower dog bone mount. I did and it cost me loads to put right, basically it knacked all the other mounts resulting in f**ked gearbox and clutch. Cost ££££s to put right.

  Lionel Richie
well Renault spends "a few quid" developing things like engine mounts, they're designed to allow some movement, whoever came up with that uprated bush kit for the dogbone definatley didn't spend anywhere near the same amount!

by reducing this movement you're f**king up the system! everything in that engine bay is designed to work in a certain way
