Hi, first time ive driven my 172 since engine transplant today. There is a little bit of movement when accelerating with the engine. Its normall low down revs, when you plant your foot the engine and box jump forward.

Which mount needs adjusting to solve this?

carl, how would you see that the engine is jumping forward when your putting your foot down from inside the car? and the engine naturally jumps back when you put your foot down hence why alot of people get the manifold banging against the subframe ;)

You can feel the movement whilst driving, all 3 of mine went and you could really tell.

i dont see how your can tell that the engine is moving in the bay yes mayeb hear it or see that the gear stick is moving forward back which can relate to block movement but you cant physically see and know that the engine is indeed moving sonny :)

and i've had allsorts of problems with my mounts all have been replaced and one twice only symptom i've come across is knocking end of

yeah it feels more gearbox related to be honest :boring: was just woundering as the car has only done 400 miles in with the new engine so i think ill have alook at the mounts sometime this week.

theres alot more extra ponnies under that bonnet than ya rep mate so u not used to it lol, engine does move when planting ya foot down unless theres knocking i'd say its normal

best way i know is to get hold of the engine and give it a good shake their shouldnt be much movement, and the engine wants to be pulled as far forward as pos

Thats how i properly knew it was gone, i had a bout an inch of movement by hand, its was very easy to do as well. Also the feel whilst driving, its hard to describe, there wasn't a knocking but a delay between clutch bite and movement of the wheels, it was odd. When i went to change the mounts it was obvious they had gone as the gearbox mount had blown and perished and the upper engine one had completely split in two.

Ah cool, well they'll never be 100% solid as they don't want to be and as you've got a solid gear linkage you'll always have some feedback from the engine/gearbox movement.

It should be less than the 1.2 but it'll still be there, it depends what you call excessive.

its only under fast acceleration from low revs, it jumps back and then carrys on like normal. Its more noticable than my 1.2 in all honesty but as ive said the engine has only done 400 miles since ive put it in so may go back to check all mounts :)
