Should this be between max and min and not on the max mark or above .

Upto max but not over.

but it is ok if it looks over after you check it when the engine had been running.

no your supposed to run it. turn it off then leave it for a min. take the dipstick out and wipe it. THEN dip it and check level.

thats what i mean, when the engine is cold, it should be at the max or below, but never over. But, after the engine had beem running it is common for it to go over the max line when you take it out.
