please move if this is in the wrong section

does anyone know what the price of a 172 ph1 engine is roughly. also how much for a loom and ecu for the same car.

i know the price changes depending on milaege and such i'm just looking for a ballpark price

be careful when buying a second hand engine mate. A lot of dodgy people selling these. Breakers yard or off someone breaking one on here would be best place. Obviously the latter will be cheaper.

Also depends on what you're planning on doing with it? dropping it into the 16valver? track use etc. Mileage won't really matter if you're going to do stuff with it. Lots of people on here with 100k plus, and running fine. Gearbox's also.

yeah the plan is put it in the valver, the bottom end went on the valver. so need a new engine. im just weighing up the options. was at first thinking of doing a f7r conversion, mainly because of it being easier. but recon the f4r conversion will make a better conversion.

no plans for it to be a track weapon at the moment, but could always be turned into one in the future.

i thought finding a full car that was being broken would be the best option, just don't know where to look for one.

As said just be careful with engines, check it turns over by hand before buying. I learnt the hard way.

Remember you'l need to make the loom to run with the Mk1 (modifying/cutting/adding bits in), then a Ph1 ECU and an emulator. From there its drop in, plug in and go. Downpipe has to be made too...just a few things to think about.

F7R is far far far easier, but I bet you can get a 172 engine for cheaper, and its more reliable.

Think whiteley has an ECU and loom spare if you find an engine that hasnt got them with it too.

yeah from everything ive heard the f7r is a good easy option but i feel that the engines are just too expensive for what they are/age/condition/mileage.

the thing i would be most dreading the is the wiring it just one thing i cant fully get my head around.

Unfortunately its alot of work to put a Ph1 throttle body on a Ph2 inlet, requires drilling a hole and tapping a thread IIRC. You cant just put the ph1 inlet on either as the breather plate on the top of the rocker cover is different also, and im not sure if they are interchangeable (dont think they are). JamesR5GTT put a Ph1 throttle body on his Ph2 engine, but it was a lot of work!

At the end of the day if you're going to throttle body a 1*2 engine and put it in a Mk1, any engine would be fine. But if the engine is retaining the standard inlet, Ph1 is what you need (Also not to mention the Ph2 loom is no good nor is the Ph2 ECU's, has to be Ph1)

lol, so thats a firm no ;)

Don't worry wilky, there seems to be a new car breaking every week on here recently. Not sure if Burp has sold his yet? I presume he was selling the engine.

*nips off to find thread :D*

EDIT:

I can't remember if the engine went on it come to think of it. It's not on the list of sale items, so presume it's goosed.
