Engine seems to 'skip a beat'

God knows how to describe it, I reckon it might be called pinking. Sometimes, when I floor it, the car will speed up then kinda 'cut out' then shoot off again. Kinda as if it's having palpitation. Could this just be dodgy petrol? Also noticed, it doesn't like crawling in traffic and I've found it's stalling quite often. It's done 75,000 miles. 1.2 16v, recent cambelt, aux belt and service. Sounds like a miss fire mate, could be plugs/coilpack related?
And fault codes?

It's just had new spark plugs and coil pack mate. It's pulling good, it's just seems to like you say misfire. No fault codes

I bet is the wirinf around the ECU cover! 1.2s are terrible for this.

Have a check, theres a metal cover thing at the back of the engine which wobbles about and wears through the wiring. I had a bit sponge stuffed beside mine and held in place with a cable tie so it didnt wobble about, and out tape on my wiring around it.

Solved all my problems until i took the tape off one day and it started its limp mode and missfiring stuff again.

Yeah, that metal cover is a complete c**t. It rubbed right through my wiring; car s**t itself on my way home from college once, sounded like an Impreza, had no power, thought it was properly f**ked at the time. Luckily rectified as above with some electrical insulation tape and complete removal of the metal cover.

It took a few days, but the car just sorted itself out after adding tape.

My car is a 54 plate but has the 2005 engine. It's a 1.2 16v, but has the really big airbox thats really long but quite thin. A bit like this, but this is NOT mine haha:

Was it? I had a 03 plate and that was different to my 54 plate! Both we're dynamiques.

Yep exactly the same. Mine was a dynamique aswell, 1.2 16v

That's weird then. I thought the engine must have changed after 03 to the 05 version, as the 05 airfilter fit but the 03 04/54 plate one didn't.
