Engine swap prices please, what have you paid...

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
How much would a reputable garage be charging as a ball park figure to swap a phs 1 172 engine for one from a donor car? Can anyone advise on roughly amount of hours.

Cheers, keV...

Around £500 to £600 is about right for labour I'd say.
I think that's about what I paid when my original engine conked. It's worth getting the cambelt kit, aux belt kit and water pump changed while you're at it though so you can add about another £300 in parts.

Cheers for replys guys. Out of interest would people still have belts done if engine came with history and receipts ??

Not looking forward to finding out how much damage there is............:(

its upto you really, but whilst its out i suggest doing the lot, clutch, cambelt etc, chuck it in, leave for 5years done

Am hoping replacement isn't needed yet but we'll see. What is best case scenario when cambelt has gone...
Trying not to think about worst..

head rebuild, head gasket, cambelt kit, seals etc etc would be around £1200 to rebuild as a rough guide

If you need a decent garage pm me, one in halifax will charge you right :)

He's got all the proper tools for the cambelts too and has done a few 1*2's now :)

Far best off asking a mate or a good mate of a mate if you take it to a garage/specialist you will be looking at monstor cash. Failing that if your only rolling around in a 2000 reg ph1 why not sell it for spares of repairs? and buy a new one surely cheaper if you have no mechanical abilty?

Cheers Jenic. Might take that up depending what i decide to do. Am about to sorn her for now as tax and mot are due at end of month as well, and skint is an understatement of my finances at min. Don't want to rush into anything, so until I decide if I'm gonna sell as is or repair, going to be car less.......:(
