Engine swaps /refurb

I have a slight problem with my willy3 which I have had from new. Ive done 210,000 miles and the bloODY CAMBELT BROKE short of the change time, it looks like its done in two exhaust valves.I could just take the head off and get it reconditioned.Ive been quoted around 300quid. However this leaves me with a bottom end that has done 210,000 miles,I have thought of several approaches

1: Secondhand williams engine ,I have been having trouble finding any for sale maybe with this group I may have more sucess! Maybe a Clio cup engine?

2:Clio172 engine Will this fit easily into a willy? without too much modification?

3:eek:ther prob is that it really needs a suspension rebuild as it is all original (ecept the shocks and clutch).and I have just been made redundant. Anyone have an opinion on the breaking value?

3: full recon

  FRST and 106 GTi

really sorry to hear that mate. "short of the change time"... how many? for safety Ive known guys that changed their cambelt on 60mil km... one did it on 40mil km after a trackday.

Safety.

How is the piston?

dont know about the 172 engine, but can really see it on a willy engine bay unless real hard work on fitting.

take your time on rebuilding it... the thing MUST roll again!!!

210k miles.. that is +-336k km... WhAt?! wow that is a lot!

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

mine snapped, only done 60 odd k though. having the bottom end rebuilt and possibly new pistons. Got a new head too.

Thats a lot of miles for a willy 3 mate!

The engine in the early 2.0 Megane Coupe is practically the same as the Williams by the way - could try searching for one of them.

mine went at 5mph. Wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary just pulled out of works car park and up a small hill. Although 10mins later I would have probably been caning it as I was takin my work mate out for a quick spin.

Lucky really.

Bloody hell, fairly impressed with that mileage sprint16v, tell me did the engine still have a healthy pull at that age, and what was rest of car like. Without doubt the highest miles I have heard on a valver/willy. Engine wise I would look for a Renault 19 16v. Theyaint as loved as clios and there are more about just reaching that age where quite a few are going to be scrapped. I am seeing more and more 19 16v in breakers yards than ever before.

Halfords fully synthetic oil, carefully warmed up . And it still bounced of the rev limiter in 5th shortly before the belt broke at 5mph (2 bent exhaust valves) 1 clutch at 165,000 1 water pump at 180,000 1 alternator at 175000 mechanical sympathy saves wear and tear. Dont thrash it till its nice and warm., saves shocks and gearboxes too. The only unreliable things have been the original alrm which has broken twice with crap service from cobra meaning off road for two weeks waiting for a part from Italy

People say that the clio is fragile,I think a lot of this reputation is down to usage .The mags always claim that you get lift off oversteer, the only time I have noticed this is whenthe road is wet and/or the front tyres are worn out and the inside one is spinning. Also when letting off the throttle there does not seem to be a sudden change in rpm it dies away rather than going off like a carb fed engine. This implies that that these magazine testers are really brutal rock apes who of course dont pay for their own tyres.Mind you their tests are done on new cars and mine loostened up a lot almost overnight ,when it reached 20,000 miles really surprising l
