engine transplant

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172

hiya i currently have aclio 2001 1.6 16v sport? and mate mate wrote off the back end of his 172 last week, the engineis fine and i was wondering could i fit this engine into my bay and what other adjustments would i have to make, any ideas of costs??? thanks

If you can get his entire car and swop the dash and all the wiring over then it should almost drop it.

Check the rear axle you might need a 172 axle though to make the ABS etc work. Just check how many teeth are on the 172s comapired to the 1.2s if there the same you dont need to upgrade the rear drums are fine.

If you stick the rear thingie bob of the 172 axle on the 1.2 you can keep the zeons working.

To do the transplnat as easy as possible youd have to swop the brakes engine, dash, dials, UCH ie bit under the glovebox, wishbones suspension etc anyway. As for costs well it depends its just labout realy ontop of the price of a crahsed 172 you can sell the 172 other bits if you want ie seats door cards etc to get some money back.

If you do want to keep stock brakes it will be more difficult as the easiest way is just to swop the whole front ends as such over. Stock front brake would stand up depending upon how you drive dont forget there achually better (bigger) than those fitted top the Williams and those had 150hp stock abeitly in a ligther shell.

It might be worth looking into how much damage the 172 has and buy it plus a brand new 172 shell for £1.2k and swop all the bits to that then least when you sell it its a proper 172 which was a write off rarther than a 1.2 with a transplant. Plus it should work out less since selling your 1.2 will cost less than new 172 bits (hopefully) plus as I said it will be worth more.

Found it - yeh the engine will go in no problem. You will need the complete wiring loom from the donor car / the ECU / the instrument panel / the uch control unit / the decoder ring off the ignition barrel / the plip key from the 172 / the engine / the gearbox / the frt brakes / suspension / anti roll bar. I fitted the rear springs and shockers off the cup onto the standard back axle. You can change the back axle if you want and convert it to rear discs - i didnt with my conversion as the car only weighs 800 kg and the frt 172 brakes combined with the standard rear drums is more than sufficient enough to stop the car ( mine is stripped for weight though ) - if you give me your e-mail address i will send you some pics.

TT225 ( 300 bhp ) in a 1.2 !!

ben p - i paid £1000 for a complete wrote off 172 cup and stripped it bare - did the work myself with my mate jordy ( absolute mechanical wizard ) i then spent another £1000 on engine mods and £1000 on a complete NOS set up.
