Engine turns over, doesn't start

  Clio DCi
I've having a problem with my car starting, the engine turns over but it refuses to start.

It started last night when I was driving on the dual carriageway, then I smelled a burning smell and the STOP light came on. I pulled over and noticed I'd had a flat wheel, this would've been from a large pothole hit earlier in the night.

After changing the wheel, I started the car again but the engine sounded louder and deeper than usual, and after a few seconds the glow plug light came on and the engine started ticking over faster (as if i'd left the car ticking over for a few minutes).

I tried to set off again but the car felt like it had lost all power, the glow plug light came on again, and starting juddering after twenty yards or so (like pushing the brake down without pushing down the clutch), so pulled over again and checked the engine.

Now, the engine won't start at all but turns over, we think it's either no fuel getting to injector pump, or an electrical fault as the glow plug light keeps turning on.

Can anyone shed any light on the situation?

1.5DCi/K9K I'm guessing?

It really needs diagnostics as guessing isn't cheap on these but the problems are normally very simple to find and kill; Could be EGR related, Glowplug relay or, my personaly bet after a "Burning" smell is 'DF127'. Where are you based?

Yeah it is a dCi, I'm in Northern Ireland.

The burning smell only happened the once and it's fine this morning, what do you mean by 'DF127'

"DF127" is a fault code that is shown under a Renault diagnostic session... You really should seek the help of a local specialist though IMO as it's gonna need plugging in to help focus your efforts with a repair.
