ive noticed now, when car is hot or cold, that when left to just tick over without driving that the exhaust is sort of misfiring and blowing a bit and the engine seems to be up and down every couple of seconds on the revs but only ever so slightly.

does anyone know what this could be or is this common for the engine?

whats the rpm variation? could just be hunting and the blowing exhaust is exaggerating it, but thats a guess tbh

to be honest it doesnt read the difference on the rev counter. its like when the engine is ticking over, maybe it happens on a lot of clio 172s but ive never heard another one

172's are known to have a 'lumpy' idle. Happens on mine too. Wouldn't worry too much.
