Well the EVO's run the later technology 4G-63 engine all the way from Japan and they are very high tech. The Escort runs a CVH lump which was concieved in 1974 by a guy watching the sweeney and drinking a pint of John Smith's ( CVH - Compound Valve angle Hemispherical combustion chamber ) and its only 30 mph slower than the EVO ??? Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

IIRC the RST std was around the 130bhp mark.

Either way still modified.

In standard from, 0-60 8.2 secs, top end 130mph, they are 132bhp (1.6 8v cvh engine) with a garrett t3 turbo.

I know someone who had a red erst which was proper modded (outside it looked totally standard though)
That car would do the clock easily (140) with four of us in it & it would still be accelerating, it used to p*ss on scoobys easily (I used a scooby as an example as I was there when he p*ssed on a few of them (mk1's wrx) yes mr scooby was going for it each time)
The bad thnig was the dude didn't know anything about the set up at all :dapprove: (he knows sweet fa about cars) just that it had previously been worked on by power engineering.

that it may be for when the car was conceived(used to own one with 245 bhp)but useless in the wet,turbo lag was immense and against a pug gti in anything but bone dry conditions i didnt have a chance up until 60 mph.Things have moved on and i can honestly say my 172 cup would piss all over my rst on the track.Got to admire the guy for effort though P.s anyone know how much was spent on the rst?

Couldn't have put it better myself lol

Gotta remember this RST is set up and geared etc for top speed so the initial off the line and mid range speed is a tad misleading when compared to the Evo

I know from my days in the RSOC theres a few RST's out there that have mid range performance 30-70 50-100 that are nothing short of mindblowing that dont have the same terminal speed but would seriously show up most cars on the road, remember a white S1 RST that was in fast ford and performance ford about 1995-96 where all the split times in gear would shame most stuff now, 4WD or no 4WD, think Ive got the mags somewhere, only probs are that people think it's 'down the pub talk', put it this way the said S1 mentioned above, point to point within silly speeds I'd not even contemplate having a go unless I was driving some serious s**t

nearly has a rst s1 mint aswell but insurance wanted 3,700 when i was 17 and the car was only 3,000 gutted should of just bought it

This was from a standing start, mojority of the time your playing 'catch me if u can' its from a rolling start.. its only off the line the EVO had an advantage... and being up against a highly modified EVO thats really some going! Besides that, 160+ in an RST 1600!! Crazy.
