ESP Light + SERV



Right had my engine changed a while back and last night this came on. I'm going to pop back tommrow but wondered if you guys may know what itl be.

Most likely going to be a sensor (I think)

The gearbox light popped on for a few seconds when I was revving it and turning right:S

As in if I'm turning right and accelate the green light comes on for a sec and I lose power

Now the lights are stuck on and it wont start :dead:

Any Ideas appreciated

esp and serv usualy mean a loose connection with the airbag cable - just give it a wiggle and it should sort itself

as for the other probs not so sure....
 
Also When it conked I was turning right, I was thinking one of the sensors on the hubs has worked its way loose. Maybe the ABS sensor leads?

when i had a ph2 172 i had serv airbag and esp light come on - jiggled bout the cable and all three went off never to return!
 
Very much doubt its that as it wont start lol I'm going to check the ABS sensors later on but would this cause it not to start?

wouldnt have thought that wouldnt make the car start - just kinda light up to say youve got a problem. Not too sure really as im not mechanically minded

iv got esp and serv light on every now and again. Where is this cable that i should jiggle?

Very much doubt its that as it wont start lol I'm going to check the ABS sensors later on but would this cause it not to start?

No mate the ABS sensors won't cause the starting problem.......

As for the non start problem......

1) Does the immoboliser light on the dash go off?
2) Can you hear the fuel pump pressurise?
3) Check your fuses

1.) Yes immobiliser deffo fine
2.) I believe fuel is making it to the cylinders but it doesnt let me turn it over (or it does sometimes but promptly cuts me out from doing it)
3.) Dont think its the fuses

At an educated guess as the whole thing was in pieces i suspect a seonsor wasnt plugged back in properly but i wondered what sensor would prevent starting + throw up the esp light/serv light.

When I had problems starting mine.....could crank it but never fired up I was told to check a sensor that reads the flywheel rotations that then sends a signal to the ECU to sort the fueling out. Trying checking this sensor is still in place as it may be lose and that's maybe why you can sometimes start it but it promptly cuts out?

To see the sensor you need to take the air filter out and look down towards the gearbox. Then run your hand along the gearbox towards the engine and you should feel it and it will be held in place by 2 x 10mm bolts.

Might be pointing you in the wrong direction as I am no mechanic and just going by the different things I was told to check with mine :)
 
The TDC sensor? Thanks

I will check it I really suspect thoguh that its a loose connection from where someone dropped the engine in.

To someone that has changed engines over before... Anyone know where the best places are to check for loose connections etc which bits are most prone to working loose etc..

sounds like a TDC sensor mate,

with a renault, it would be any sensor which has a loose connection that could throw a light.. they suck LOL

but giving the tdc sensor a clean would be a start.

No Problem lol. Ill check everything I can think of tonight. If it still fails Ill get it plugged in.

TDC sensor located on gearbox - Symtomps gearbox lgiht coming on.

Coolant was changed a few days ago bleed screw is above sensor

Engine would try and tickover for a second or so until it realises it cant get a TDC reading then give up

First thing to check for sure thinking about it!

Some of this is educated guesswork btw lol!!
 
FYI Everyone it was the TDC, cleaned it much better but still jerks need a new one really

So if you have similar symptoms to me thats what it most likely is going to be

Turn the starter and it stops itself its gunna be the tdc.
 
Glad you've found the problem buddy is the TDC sensor from the old or new engine? Sounds like its been knocked or something, I don't think I will let that mechanic even change my wiper blades!
 
Nah to be fair the new engine didnt come with one its mounted on the gearbox...

I'v given it a session with a brass brush and some electric cleaner (robbed from work really strong stuff) and its gleaming again. How long it will last it anybody guess really...

There not cheap to replace :(

Only god will know why the ESP light came on though LOL

Although gearbox light is a bit of a giveaway so thats good :)

If the ESP/SERV lights come back its most likely either a shot brake pedal switch or its needs adjusting. If its intermittant then it'll probably just want adjusting.
 
lol went to test it just a second ago and it did the same again its still fooked. Will need a new one I think. How much from renault guys?? I dont think I need the loom do I as its a 182?
