Even amount of thread showing on top mounts?

I'd guess the answer should be yes - but looking at my front top mounts, I've got a little more thread showing on the driver's side than on the passenger side.

Should they be even? Anyone got any pics for me to compare?

The passenger side top mount rubber seems to compress a bit under air-gun tightening as well.

Could the rubber cup underneath be out of line? The car seems to travel straight and doesn't feel 'weird'?

Cheers,
D.

You should tighten them with a swan neck spanner and a hex key, air gun can turn the strut shaft and break the inside of the strut. I would have thought they should be even both sides but if they are both tight and not causing problems I wouldnt worry.

Cheers for the responses, chaps. I didn't realise that they needed so little, Fred? With it needing an air-gun to slacken the top mount off initially, I just assumed that you'd need one to put them back? Still, you know what they say about assumption! ;)

Are the top mounts themselves subject to a 'one-use' application? By that, the nylon thread on the nut itself can only be properly tightened once?

Thanks,
D.
