Eventful afternoon getting my Cup back on the road

  FiestaST(ex 172 Cup)
My 172 cup has been SORN since the end of October 2010 and today the time came to get it back. After a quick jump it started first time and after 10 minutes idling, off I went to get petrol 3 miles away. I was pretty happy at this point, everything was going far too smoothly!

I was prepared for it not to start again at the petrol station because the battery was probably still flat so my Dad was there with jump leads. What I wasn't prepared for was to lock both sets of keys in the car :rolleyes::nono:

I left the keys in the ignition (but ignition off), shut the door and the automatic lock "feature" locked the car. Bugger.

Then another CS member turned up in his 182 and offered suggestions so cheers for that Andrew! We debated which window would be cheapest to smash and calling autoglass about it we found it was £175 for a rear side window, crazy. So I plumped for 12 months of RAC which turned out to be a good choice. All sorted within 45 minutes and now I've got breakdown.

Anyway, the car is running well so that's the main thing. Moral of the story: don't be a spanner with both keys on one fob.

Does anyone know how to turn off the auto lock thing?

I locked the keys in a Kia toaday and my saturdaY boy LOCKED SOME IN A vw GOLF. My wife has also somehow lost the keys (both sets!) for my Impreza.

Today has not been a good day for keys.

LMFAO !

For future ref, bend the top of the door back on the Clio, gently as you can !!! Poke something like a coat hanger along the door card til you get to the handle and pop it open.

I thought the auto lock feature only locked the car once the car went above a certain speed?

Yeah you too, good little chat about the cars. The spare key is now inside the house! Looks like this oil change may have to be done in the rain now, awful weather.

Not sure about this auto lock thing. Mine doesn't lock when I go over any speed but it auto locks like it did yesterday, confusing!

According to the manual my auto locking feature for driving is disabled, but there's no mention of it auto locking when the car is stationary like mine does.

That's exactly what the RAC bloke did with the door, but he hooked the keys instead. Worringly the alarm didn't go off when he did this. You could probably do that on the passenger door and hit the lock button on the dash to steal the car!

car will autolock if you unlock the car and don't open the door within a few minutes.. dont know if its the same on the 172s/182s but it works on the 197 unless you have a faulty sensor on the door this information is useless!

Yeah usually this is the case, but for whatever reason it did it even though I had opened the door. I suppose it could have been something to do with the flat battery. So if anyone ever has battery problems make sure you have a window open, or the boot.

How did the oil change go? Has the battery survived the 9 months or is it in the bin!

  FiestaST(ex 172 Cup)
Battery is shagged, I didn't do the oil today because I can't start the car to get the oil hot so it will run out, that and the weather today was bloody awful. The ignition comes on fine but theres no juice to turn the starter, the fuse box just clicks very loudly. I drove it for an hour yesterday like the RAC bloke said but it won't hold enough charge. Trying to sponge a lift off a mate to get a battery tomorrow then I'll do the oil. I think it'll be okay for a couple more days if I take it easy, there's plenty of oil in there.

New battery for £36 and all is well again. The car is running very well - chuffed to be back on the road, I forgot just how good this car is :D
