Oh dear we could sit here and debate all day but i've gotta take the dogs for a walk lol.

I know the difference between flat and responsive, as does anybody whos ever driven a 205 GTI, silly sensitive throttle but you should know that more than anyone ;)

I guess it just boils down to me biased to AT as i have them and im happy and you to Jenvey for the same reason.

I'd struggle to understands anyones angle who suggests that AT are 'horrible' and crap though. They simply brought my 197 to life and are an absolute joy to drive both on and off track. Perhaps you should let me do a few laps in your 172 and convert me lol? :p

I dont mind how the AT drive at all, Im not into throttles with no resolution so am quite happy to have the amount of control they give at low rpm etc in traffic if its a daily, I just dont like the build quality, or the design of the installation. As you say though, you are more likely to notice those as the person fitting them than the person driving them.

Each to their own but Jenvey are awesome from every angle / support / quality everything. They're on the ball. Unless the AT kit was an absoloute bargain I just can't see why you'd pick them

Could someone shed some light on wiring looms for tb's? Is it a difficult job to splice a original loom?

Also how do you balance them? Again easy/hard job? Would the person mapping do this?

Not difficult at all to wire really, it's only a dozen wires or so. Depending on the ecu you may need to add a different crank sensor bracket too, to hold a zetec or similar sensor.

Balancing is really trivial in both cases (although fiddly to get at the bolts on the at), just push a synchro meter into the trumpet one at a time and adjust till you have the correct value, takes only a minute or two (once filter etc is out the way which in some cases can take a few mins depending on clearance)
the mapper may want to raise or lower them all to get the idle how he wants it.

Buy a Gen90, Plug into original loom, plug in TPS adaptor that comes with it, finished.

Balancing requires the use of a laptop with the appropriate ECU software, as any changes effect the TPS calibration points, ignition idle control, and fuel.
A synchrometer is simple to use. The process isn't hard, but you need to know how to do the whole thing, not just turn some screws

Depends what you are trying to achieve, SBD for example with their vauxhall kits used to tell people a sync value to set to, and then a TPS value to set to, and that would mean that their basemap then worked fine once those were set, with no laptop required. Less of an issue these days though as most people have access to a laptop.

If you are going to get the laptop out though, then I would say that you need to add a wideband to your list of parts required for that process, as otherwise you are just guessing at the fuelling.
I consider that part of the mapping process though, which it doesnt sound like he is going to be doing himself, and once its mapped in future if he needs to remove the bodies (which he probably will if they are AT Power ones, FLOL) then all he needs to do on refitting is make sure they are all set to the same sync values again and no map changes will be required.

Its two halves of one small job, I personally have no problem with the car owner doing their own sync on cars I map, I just explain to them that I might need to alter it when I get there if the ignition values dont sit where I want on the sync values they have set, but at least they will have already got the 4 in sync with each other so generally I will only need to adjust the main throttle stop screw not all 4 of the others as well so it still saves the mapper a lot of time if the owner has done that.
