Excellent fuel economy on a hot day

  Citroen DS3 DSport
I went on a 200 mile drive on Saturday, Glasgow to Lochgilphead and back. My 172 returned the best economy yet despite me not driving like my grandad :D 45mpg over the entire journey. Temperature outside was 18 degrees c on the sat. On sunday and monday the temp was far lower and the car immediately fell back to the usual 34-35mpg. In total my tank of Optimax lasted 410 miles over the 3 days, had I kept driving on Saturday then I expect it would have lasted the trip computers estimated 490 miles which is 160 miles more than ever before.

I'm sure you'll all sleep better having read this.

cool beans! :)

cold air = more dense = more air = more fuel = worse mpg
Indeed but I was surprised at how much the mpg improved. Now all I need is for the temp in Glasgow to remain close to 18c all year round and things will be great :D

I got 41mpg on a trip to Fort William form Stirling on Sunday, sitting at circa 60-65mph, then my GF was caning it back down by Tyndrum. I usually get 35-37mpg on my daily commute between Buchlyvie and Glasgow, sometimes less than that depending on traffic. All in a 2001 1.2 16v.
