exhaust blowin' a wee bit

  1998 BMW e46 323i
Just undone the joins between the rear-to centre and centre to- front sections and packed full of exhaust sealant. Seems a little quieter, but the exhaust still 'put puts' from the rear and sounds a bit metalic near the manifold to cat join.

Now I know you can't use sealant on joins before cats, and I've renewed the metal wire 'O ring' that sits between the cat and the manifold already. So what else can I do to quieten the b*gger?

Any advice appreciated chaps and chapettes.

Is it a standard exhaust? Have you checked for other holes? They usually rust just before the back box its very common.

It's a standard exhaust I replaced the whole system myself about a year ago. Never was super refined, was just looking to sort it once and for all.

It doesn't seem to be blowing anywhere I can get near. It's in mint condition.
