exhaust cat apparantly blocked can anyone help?????

I had my car rolling road tested today!
Its a 172 and it come up with 155.3bhp it is still completely standard and the bloke who done it said that the cat was sooted up n slightly blocked if i cleared it out it wouldn't smell as much when enthusiastically driven and would put it make to around 170bhp!

Anyone no much about this and what i can do to gain my power back??

Out of curiosity how did he come to the conclusion of the cat being blocked.

Fit a decat, its the easiest and cheapest thing to do.

Or remove your cat, smash the insides out and refit it. Both will have the same effect but one is classed as a bodge, one is classed as a mod.

Blocked cat will make the power suffer. But if the cat has collapsed, it's going to run like s**t. You'd have noticed it by now.

My money is on that famous one word, beginning in "T" and ending in "iming"

because of the smell and something on the chart on his computer didnt really explain it to much to me just said that the cat was slightly blocked. n the something bout putting some super unleaded in and it would clean it. not sure he knew what he was on about!

If i put a decat on it will i need to get it remapped to make it run properly with it? also still got standard exhaust!

Decat on a standard exhaust is fine. No remap needed.

how would i know if timing is out it has been running abit lumpy/spluttery on low revs when cold just lately when i first get in it early morning but when engined warmed up its fine!
