Exhaust on 182 and rear axle

Car  Renaultsport Clio 182
Just went to Merityre to see how much they would charge to change my exhaust on my 182 (MOT failure) and they said that they cant do it because they would have to take the whole rear axle off!

Is this right?! Seems a lot of work to replace an exhaust!!

Yup. Although I am sure I read you can undo the dampers and swing the beam down enough. This might not be true.
Normally if fitting an after market system the standard pipe is cut in order to remove it, and the new ones are normally in more pieces to fit with the beam in place still

Only if you want to remove the original one (if it is an OEM exhaust) in one piece?
If it is OEM, just cut it to aid removal - it can be sleeved back together (Renault supply the sleeve!).

You can remove the one peice exhaust by just taking rear bumper off, jacking up the car and removing the dampers, i've done it before.

Thanks guys. Just spoke to K-tech as well and yeah you're right, cut the old one to remove and the new one comes in two pieces to slip over the axle. Gonna be ordering my Janspeed 182 Supersport shortly! Any thoughts on this system?

What's the benefit of stainless steel btw? And what material is the standard Renault one?

Get one with a centre silencer, that is all.
Stainless steel will resist rust (technically shouldn't rust but the welds can sometimes fail) better than the mild steel OEM one and sound more bassy.

K-tec sold out of the ones with centre silencer. So I got the Supersports one without centre silencer. He said it would sound a bit rumbly at first, but after a few hundred miles, should settle down and be only a little bit louder than the factory one.
