Exhaust problems

My heat shield was rattling and squeaking so I went to put a bigger washer on temporarily, but the stud has snapped off

It was this one

I think it is this one inside the boot. Would I be best to drill through from here? Or take it to a garage and hope they have a better method ?

Oh and would this knackered mount be why the exhaust is hitting the bumper?

Just put the heat shield in the bin, it's what I did!

No just don't remove any shield covering the tank and you'll be fine.

What about the rubber mounts? Do they need replaced?

Don't look in the best condition, you could buy another and fit it. Or you could buy another, fill it with tiger seal and fit that. Or I've seen some people take the rubber out of their existing mount and cable tie a powerflex hanger in there.

Remove the heat shield. I took mine off months ago as the same happened to me. As for the months with my KTec exhaust I went through a pair of mounts every 2 weeks. Get a set of powerflex mounts, there is a guide on here how to make them ...

Well I decided to keep the heat shield for now. I drilled and tapped the snapped stud and put a stainless bolt in. I thought I may as well keep it until it completely gives up.

I was just going to get a standard exhaust mount. I think I'll get the garage to do it though, because if I do it another bolt will probably snap

Nah the bolts holding the mounts on are not that. 3 bolts per mount and then follow the guide on how to make the powerflex ones

Just don't buy a euro car mount 1,000 miles later and I've had to cut another hanger up to wedge it in place and raise the exhaust ... Cheap shite

Not sure I like the idea of the powerflex ones. What about genuine renault ones? Surely they are ok?

I Used some Araldite on mine mate, doesnt look too bad if you do a neat job plus its under the car so no1 see's it anyway. my heatshield had come away from the bolts on both sides and it was banging about everytime i went over a bump, 4 months on and its stil holding like the day i put it on.
