Exhaust

  Inferno 182
Is it just my car or are all standard clio exhausts put together really s**t? Last month my exhaust separated between the cat and the silencer. Then i woke up this morning with the backbox an inch off the floor

The ones on the 182 are a one-piece exhaust and seem perfectly well put together. Many people have got 6 years out of them.

i heard on the clio review that they were never really that well made, mine snapped easy and i have heard the 182 exhaust is prone to rust !

All mild steel exhausts rust eventually. How long they last depends on the way the car is used. Very short journeys won't burn off moisture.
As I said, many 182s still have the original exhaust. Those that don't have often changed the exhaust for more noise.
My Trophy's is like new almost 7 years later.

You must have a lucky one then, all my friend exhausts in 172's have been replaced, mine lasted just a year and the whole thing snapped, exhausts dont break because of how you use them. Thye prob replace them cause it has rusted and a hole has formed!

Exhausts are a weak spot on the Clio 172 and usually fail due to a rusted joint. No pattern parts are available, and as Renault charge about the same as an aftermarket performance stainless steel exhaust system most owners tend to go down the performance route. There is often a rattle at 4000rpm due to the heat shield on the centre box becoming loose. This is not a major problem and can be rectified with an exhaust shield from the likes Thermotec.

My RB 182 on a 54 plate was running on its original system up untill a month or so ago, rusty yes, but it wasnt blowing anywhere.
You've done well then. My 54 plate (2005) 182 failed just before FCS and was bandaged up for that...has now been replaced.

172 exhaust lasted about 4 years (58K) and 182 lasted 5½ years (72K)...

Some people replace them because they give up...others do it beforehand as it does seem to be a design issue as they all seem to give up the ghost after a few years...plus, aftermarket SS exhausts tend to make the 172/182 sound how it should have done from the factory! :race:

i had a bad experience with a ss exhaust! the mount on the back was stretched the whole time it then fell off breaking the whole system! went back to stanndard very happy now. I like the flush look of the 172 on the back bumper ! :)

As per my recent thread, even pattern parts can be crud, mine's failed at the hanger arm within 2months of fitting, cheap pap.
