Expensive month

  clio 182 black /gold
I have just paid for 12 months tax at £215 and the clio has its MOT in the morning. In a couple of weeks it has been booked in for the belts. Oh the joys of car ownership.

I've not so much got an expensive month but an expensive week. 4 weeks time the vee is off for its cambelt service and mot, it'll also get professionally detailed and insurance for the year paid. Comes in at around £2500! Also just paid the tax too.

I know it will be over for another year. Also the belts wont need doing for another 5 years. Imagine if we all went to the same garage for all the repairs. They would be so rich lol. Oh DA i will have to check at work if i can get time off for FCS;)

Transfer insurance from the 1.2 - £220 extra

You have to be clever about it so that all the expenses don't come at once.
This is what I've done:

Brought 6 months tax to begin with then buy it annually from then on - means the tax won't be due until 6 months after the MOT.
After your insurance policy expires, let it run for another month before changing insurers. It'll delay getting another year's NCB by a month but it means that the insurance renewal isn't due at the same time as the MOT.
Stock up on a spare set of tyres while they're on offer somewhere or you can afford it - means when they do get low / illegal you don't have to fork out there and then because you've already paid for a set.

The Vee is an engine out job for belts isn't it?

From what i've hear it is, but the guys at birchdown know what they're doing and reckon day 1 will be stipping it down, the water pump is also being replace, and re-building it, day 2 will be final checks and putting all trim etc back, test drive and MOT. Day 3 it'll be re united with one very excited owner, then off for a blast round wales just to make sure.... priceless :D
