Exploding Menz pad!

  Bumder With A Buffer
As thread title anyone ever had a pad go "pop"??!!

Was da'ing the Monaco today and my yellow menz pad exploded into 3 pieces :(

Was using 203 on my orange pad and went to refine with RE5 (I think), put the pad on the Kestrel, applied the polish spread it then turned the da on at 2 to do a spread.

All was fine then whacked it up to 4 to start breaking it down and there was some rather rum old noises and shaking of the da which I thought was odd so lifted it off the panel slightly and BANG it spilt into about 3 pieces. WTF!

Now before anyone says it was on the backing plate correctly and as far as I'm aware it wasn't damaged before putting it on. So why could it have gone?? Only the second time of using it. Il post a pic when I can get on the pc (on iFail)

Also for reference I switched back to my orange pad and things were fine :S

seems strange, only used my menz pads a few times but ive not had any problems with them. how much pressure were you applying richy?

where did you buy it from richy? if it was from Tim @ CYC he'll probably just send a new out to you.. i would'nt of thought heat build-up would tear a pad into three pieces..

Applying not much pressure as I had literally just started to spread it/move it up to next speed. And I very much doubt it had dried out..wet it before hand with a few sprays of QD like every other pad I used. I wish I was recording it as it was odd as f**k..the bit that flew off land about 30 metres away in my neighbours drive

A photo....(cant find the missing bit for s**t anywhere in my small close so god knows where thats gone!)

I did wonder if I was pressing too hard but I did an experiment with the orange pad and definately wasn't due to that. Bought from i4, il drop matt a pm. Bit of a got as I couldn't use that to refine... Just used srp by hand afterwards

You should let someone who knows what they're doing do it for you! :rasp:;)

The Menz pads do seem to wear quite quickly

Keep an eye out for Matt's new range coming soon - he sent me a couple to try out and they are s**t hot!!

Festool ftw ;)

Lol, I had an interesting occurance over the weekend while doing a cup detail! Twice actually! The spot pad came zooming off the back plate and shot off into the garage! Glad the client found it amusing, I shat myself thinking it had put the backing plate's velcro teeth on the paint!

I just cant understand why it "exploded"??!! My initial thought was I had caught it on the washer jet but I was no-where near that, It was on the backing plate fully as I had to take it off and it was flat on that so god knows...As said there was a load POP and the biggest part flew off over the other side of the close :S..:(

Natty's Blue is nice on the Monaco :)

dodgy that mate. to be far, the menz pads don't feel as well made, but that's rediculous. I would be celebrating that I didn't go onto the paint with the backing plate. That's when tears start :(
