External HDD loss caused by xbox :(

  Nissan Jewk
Got hold of the new xbox slim, so decided to stick my hard drive into the old xbox to retrieve all my data off.

I've just plugged my hard drive into my laptop and the whole thing is completely empty. Not only can I not see the xbox information I retrieved, but a few gigs worth of photos have all gone too.

I know after looking it up, it reconfigures the hard drive to FAT system, but the missus would be devastated if I've lost some holiday photos.

The general answer I seem to be getting on google is a resounding 'no'. I'm contemplating a data recovery place, but i'm thinking not even that would work

both the XBox 360 and PS3 use FAT32, not NTFS

I lost a load of data on an external HDD once, but got pretty much all of it back with recovery software, so don't panic

Untill you get some recovery software running DO NOT put anything on the drive.

All the files will still be there.
