External temp gauge question

Hey

Having a weird one with the external temp on the 172. It seems to go up and down depending on load on the engine:S

Is there anyway this is linked to the engine somewhere? Is this a mod carried out normally? Or is the sensor just knackered and I'm imagining it? Lol

External temperature sensor is the little black point under the passenger mirror.

They break just needs a new sensor.

Just seems very weird that the temp goes up with the engine warming up, never goes above 50 normally around the 44 mark. Seen it at 8 this morning till I drove.
